Have you ever been going through a drawer or closet and found something you had totally forgotten that you owned? That has happened to me several times in the past month. As I sort through our home and get rid of extra stuff, organize the things we want to keep, and throw away the junk, I keep stumbling onto tucked-away treasures. Especially when it comes to art supplies…
I have never been an artist, but I have been a scrapbook fanatic since college. I was even a Creative Memories consultant for a while, and my sister was a Stampin’ Up Demonstrator. Between the two of us, my mother bought a LOT of artsy-fartsy type stuff. And then gifted some of it to me. Yay, Mom! I may or may not have things stuck in boxes and drawers that I have never even used.
Now that I am delving deeper in the art world and trying to become better at creating art as an expression of worship and reflection on God’s Word, I love when I come across supplies in my own house. Things that I didn’t know what to do with suddenly become adventures to be explored.
The bible is like that too! There are passages of scripture that I have read in the past that were just ‘blah’ to me. I didn’t really feel sparked one way or another about them. BUT, when I come back to them later in life when I am in the midst of different circumstances, the words seem to leap off the pages and my heart starts beating faster as it feels like God is speaking directly into what is happening in my life right now. A treasure that has always been there, but I didn’t recognize it until now.
I had two fun art finds that found their way into this bible art journaling in John 1: Stampin’ Up Pastels and Uni-Art Fine Line Paint Markers. Since I had already created an entry for John 1 during the Overcomers in October series, I created a tip-in this time. With a tip-in, I didn’t worry about page prep, bleed through, or how the materials would react to the pages of the bible. I just sat down and had some fun.
Here is the full process video:
For this entry, I printed out a half page of John 1 with a typewriter look font on normal copy paper to use as a background for the art. I looked at the Eras Bold font I used in the devotional post graphics and created word art (ahem, “The Word” art) with paint pens and made a distressed border with the pastels. I outlined the words in black micron pen to finish it off. Simple, yet effective.
Come along with me in my study of John and see for your self what a powerful and creative God we serve!
For your convenience, I have included both the traceable for the pre-existing page in John 1 and the printable tip-in for this blog post in John 1 in the printables bundle for the entire book of John here:
