In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” Acts 20: 35
Lent Day 4 – More Blessed
Do you like to get gifts? I do!
When I was growing up, my favorite time of year was Christmas. My parents always knew what to get me for an amazing Christmas. It was always a surprise and “just exactly what I never knew I always wanted.”
The Best Part
The best part of Christmas was getting to see what my dad got my mom. Every year, he would keep it a huge secret. He would plan and no one would know.
Then, Christmas morning, she would get the most incredible gifts.
I know he loved that moment when mom would open her gifts even more than when he opened his.
What this taught me
This Christmas tradition taught me to search for the perfect gift. To long to give the gifts that had everyone’s eyes tearing up in sentimental joy.
Pulling off the perfect Christmas secret is far more satisfying than any gift I get.
God, the Ultimate Gift Giver
God, the Father is the ultimate gift-giver.
James 1:17
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
He gives every good and perfect gift.
Gift-Givers like God
As we become more like Christ, we want to give good gifts to others. And the more we give to others, the more it brings us joy.
It is truly more blessed to give than to receive.
Action Step:
Our Focus today is GIVING TO OTHERS!
Giving to Others: Offering our money, time, or talents to help those in need. Finding some way to enrich the lives of others and think of other people rather than yourself.
Think of one way you can give to others this Lent Day 4. Go do it as soon as possible. Look for little ways throughout the day that you can bless the people around you.
Prayer:
Dear God, thank You so much for the wonderful gifts You have given us. We are so blessed by you. Help us to become gift-givers like you. TO bless everyone around us. Let us find joy in giving to others. In Jesus’ name, amen.
