“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23
All Have Sinned
All. Literally every single person. We are all in the same boat.
I’m not better than you. You’re not better than me. We are all basically sinners.
In the light of God’s glory, we fall short. We are not nearly good enough. It is impossible.
Trying isn’t good enough
No matter how hard we try, we can’t measure up on our own. We can try to be good, but we will never be perfect.
That boat we are all is leaking and we are sinking.
Sinking in the trap of sin. The crushing weight of the water floods in, pushing us under.
Rescued
We have a rescuer. A Savior who dove into humanity Himself.
He lived a life without sin so He could rescue us from it.
This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:11-12
No other name
Jesus is the only way we can be rescued. Everyone else is in the same boat we are.
How could they rescue us if they are in the same dilemma?
Jesus is the only one who can save us because He was not trapped in the sinking boat of sin.
Let go of pride
In order to be rescued, we have to admit that we are in trouble. We have to acknowledge that we sin.
And that, as sinners, we need a Savior. We need Jesus, our Rescuer.
Action Step:
Our Focus today is REPENTANCE!
Repentance: not just being sorry for our sin, though that is a part of it. Also, turning away from it and choosing to do what is right instead.
Today, take the time to admit to God that you recognize that you are a sinner. That there is no hope of rescue without Jesus.
Ask for forgiveness for your sins and strength to avoid sin today with His help.
Prayer:
Dear God, we are all in the same. We are all sinners and You are a Holy God. Please forgive us our sins and rescue us from this sinking boat. Help us to live holy lives, free from the trap of sin. In Jesus’ name, amen.
