When you don’t know what to pray
Yesterday, a couple of trips to the doctor revealed that three out of four of the people in my household (including me) have strep. My son, who actually tested positive last week for strep, also has a virus on top of his strep. We need Lysol bombs set off in our house. My husband is joking about moving to a hotel room. The funny thing is I totally wouldn’t blame him if he did. 🙂
Overwhelming
Sometimes life just gets overwhelming. It is hard to get your thoughts together to pray for anything when you are sick and tired (figuratively, literally, or both).
The Spirit helps
The wonderful thing is that even when we are at the end of our rope, when we don’t know what to pray, the Holy Spirit helps us.
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. Romans 8:26
When you don’t know what to pray
When you don’t know what to pray, God’s Spirit will pray for us. Simply ask the Holy Spirit for help – ask Him to help you pray.
The Will of God
When we pray in accordance with the will of God, we can trust that God hears us and that He will answer our prayers.
And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him. 1 John 5:14-15
Holy Spirit wants God’s will
The great thing about having the Holy Spirit’s help in our prayers is that the Holy Spirit always wants God’s will.
And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. Romans 8:27
God’s will is what is best for us
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11
We can trust that the Holy Spirit has good plans for us. When we don’t know what to pray, we can trust His prayers for us.

Prayer: communicating with God, a back and forth (talking AND listening)
What is that thing that you feel overwhelmed about? You need help, but you are at a lost. When you don’t know what to pray, seek help from the Spirit.
Ask Him today to help you in you prayers.
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, we are asking today for Your help. Help us to pray when we don’t know what to pray. Speak on our behalf and help us to trust You. In Jesus, name, amen.
