December Devotions and Doodles – December 2
Scripture Reading: Isaiah 53:1-6
1 Who has believed what we have heard?
And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
2 He grew up before him like a young plant
and like a root out of dry ground.
He didn’t have an impressive form
or majesty that we should look at him,
no appearance that we should desire him.
3 He was despised and rejected by men,
a man of suffering who knew what sickness was.
He was like someone people turned away from;
he was despised, and we didn’t value him.
4 Yet he himself bore our sicknesses,
and he carried our pains;
but we in turn regarded him stricken,
struck down by God, and afflicted.
5 But he was pierced because of our rebellion,
crushed because of our iniquities;
punishment for our peace was on him,
and we are healed by his wounds.
6 We all went astray like sheep;
we all have turned to our own way;
and the Lord has punished him
for the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:1-6 (CSB)
December 2 Devotional: A Shepherd for Straying Sheep
The best part about the prophecies of Jesus are not the birth in Bethlehem – though that is an awesome thing to celebrate this Christmas! The best part is what He did after He grew up.
His Life for Mine
He laid down His life for us while we were highly unworthy. While we were scurrying around, straying from the path, wandering about unaware of where we were supposed to be going. While we were like sheep without a shepherd, hurting ourselves as we tried to go our own way, Jesus came with the intent and express purpose to lay down His very own life in exchange for ours.
No one has greater love than this: to lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13 (CSB)
He suffered for us
He bore our sickness, our bondage, our pain, and our sin. That is the true gift this Christmas! Jesus is the true gift this Christmas. The gift of a Shepherd for all of us sheep who desperately need one.
Our Shepherd
We need His guidance. His love. His direction. His care. We need a Shepherd. We need our Shepherd. Jesus.
