December Devotions and Doodles – Day 18 (December 18)

Scripture Reading: Psalm 119:103

How sweet your word is to my taste—
sweeter than honey in my mouth. Psalm 119:103

December 18 Devotional: Your Word is Sweet

The gospel of John starts off referring to Jesus as the Word. It describes how the Word became flesh and dwelt among humans.

The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We observed his glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14

How Sweet it Is

Today’s scripture reading is short, but as I was thinking about this concept that the Word became flesh and dwelt among people. I was reminded of this simple verse in Psalms.

How sweet your word is to my taste—
sweeter than honey in my mouth. Psalm 119:103

How amazingly sweet the coming of the Word to earth was for our lives! Through His incarnation we are blessed over and over again. Our lives are eternally sweeter because of it.

Sweeter than Honey

Honey is really sweet. It would have felt even sweeter to the Psalmist because he would not have had a diet of processed, sugar-filled foods and drinks.

But God’s word is sweeter than that. Sweet enough to become flesh even though He deserved Heaven’s throne. Sweet enough to live among us, to battle temptation, to willingly lay down His life for us.

December 18 – Action Step:

Today (December 18) and throughout this Christmas season, each time we eat a sweet treat or a piece of candy, let’s remember the sweeter gift of Christmas – The Word became flesh and dwelt among us!

Prayer:

Dear God,  Use our sweets to remind of Your incredible Gift to us this Christmas. Help us to stay focused on Jesus throughout the Season. In Jesus’ name, amen.
