Watch in Hope – HOPE Challenge Day 7
“But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.” Micah 7:7
The first part of this chapter, the author is bemoaning the fact that he can’t trust anyone. People in authority like politicians and judges. Neighbors. Family. No one. Life feels full of confusion.
Then, the chapter takes a turn at verse seven.
As for Me
The author makes a choice. “As for me” – I will watch in hope. I will wait for God. My God will hear me.
We can hear a decision in this verse. When everything around me is in chaos and I feel like I can’t trust anyone, I will choose to hope in my God. I will choose to wait for my Savior. I will reassure myself with the truth that God hears me and can be trusted.
Rise Up
Out of that decision comes a section of prophecy about the nation of Israel. Israel will rise. She may be in darkness now, but God will lift her into the light. Her enemies will be put to shame.
Worthy of Our Hope
And from that prophecy a section of prayer and praise that exalts God for His righteousness, His wonders, His mercy, His compassion, His faithfulness, and His love. Woo-hoo! So worthy of our hope and trust!
The transition from despair in our circumstances and sinful world to praise of God’s love and faithfulness happens through a decision – a choice to watch for God in hope!
HOPE Challenge Day 7 Action Step:
Today is decision day! Are you going to focus on the bad in life? On the people who have been untrustworthy or who have mistreated or betrayed you? Or, will you shift your focus to hope in the only One who will never betray or desert you?
Take a moment to decide what you will focus on. Maybe create a notecard to put on your bathroom mirror, refrigerator, or desk that has Micah 7:7 or a verse about the faithfulness of God to help you remember what to focus on.
HOPE challenge Day 7 Prayer:
Dear God, You are faithful even in the hard and chaotic times in our lives. You never leave us, but sometimes we take our focus off of You. Bring our the eyes of our hearts back to You. Help us to make the decision to watch for You in hope. In Jesus’ name, amen.
