December 13 – Blessing
The Lord said to Abram:
Go from your land,
your relatives,
and your father’s house
to the land that I will show you.
2 I will make you into a great nation,
I will bless you,
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.
3 I will bless those who bless you,
I will curse anyone who treats you with contempt,
and all the peoples on earth
will be blessed through you. Genesis 12:1-3
Blessing (Genesis 12:1-3)
In Genesis, the first book of the Bible, the Lord gives Abram a promise and a blessing. Through Abram (who would become Abraham), God will make a great nation. Abram will experience blessing.
The blessing and promise that God gives Abram ends with these words:
“…and all the peoples on earth
will be blessed through you.” Genesis 12:3
The Line of Abraham
Through the line of Abraham would come Isaac, Jacob, Judah, Boaz, Obed, Jesse, David, and later, Jesus. Jesus, the Son of God, the Savior of the World came through the line of Abraham.
Abraham was richly blessed in His life and he raised his family to follow God. Generation to generation, the family taught their children and grandchildren to serve the one true God.
Blessed to be a Blessing
Because Abraham used his blessing to honor God and bless others, God used him to bless the whole world. Jesus was not just sent to save the descendants of Abraham, but also the entire world.
Jesus would surrender his perfect, sinless life to pay the price for the sins of the whole world. Then, He would conquer sin and death, triumphantly rising from the grave.
December 13 Devotional Action Step:
This season, let’s celebrate the victory Jesus has given us. We are blessed in order to be a blessing. In celebration of all God has done for us, let’s be a blessing to others.
Choose a specific thing to do for someone that will be a blessing and put it into motion today. Get a chain of blessing going!
Prayer:
Dear God, thank You for the blessing of Jesus. My life is changed because of His life, death, and resurrection. I am blessed. Help me to be a blessing. In Jesus’ name, amen.
