Retrain Your Brain to Know it is Possible
Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26 or Mark 10:27 or Luke 18:27
How many goals or dreams have gone by the wayside because you gave up, thinking they are impossible? Perhaps it is losing weight or getting your house decluttered or writing a book or improving your marriage or creating and sticking to a budget or start a side business or quit a bad habit. Maybe you make all of the resolutions at once and try to make sweeping changes in several areas.
All things are possible with God
It can seem impossible to make real changes in our lives. However, the Bible says that “all things are possible with God.” When it seems overwhelming and completely out of reach, we need to remind ourselves that nothing is impossible with God.
If you can?
Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’? Everything is possible for the one who believes. Mark 9:23
However, there is a prerequisite. We have to believe. Certainly we must believe in God for everything to be possible with Him, but we also have to believe that it is possible.
It’s time to buy in
If we say we believe the Bible, we have to buy in to the whole thing. Over and over again, it says that nothing is impossible. And yet, we live our lives like many things are impossible. We live defeated instead of victorious when we don’t believe in the possible.
I am able to do all things through him who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13
With God and His strength
Working with God and His strength, we can achieve the impossible. Through God’s strength. Strength is used when we work. It may not be easy or fun, but it is possible with God’s strength and our work.
We can make it easier on ourselves by being smart about what we try to accomplish. We can pray and ask God what one thing we need to concentrate on this year. He can lead us to the habit or goal that will make the most difference in our lives.
Focus on one thing
If we work on one thing at a time, creating one new habit or replacing one bad habit with a good one, we can do one thing each day toward our goal. God can strengthen us each day, giving us exactly what we need for that one day. As the days pile on, our new habits or goals become integrated into our routine.
Seek God’s will above all self-improvement
Self-improvement is good. Gaining more energy and health by losing weight is admirable. A clean and decluttered home is a haven for those who need love and welcoming. A balanced budget is living responsibly and enables us to give and save in order to show love to others. The outcomes are awesome.
However, our good goals are not above God’s desires. Our way cannot be more important than God’s way. Even Jesus realized this.
When things don’t go your way – want God’s way more
And he said, “Abba, Father! All things are possible for you. Take this cup away from me. Nevertheless, not what I will, but what you will.” Mark 14:36
