Taller Faith – Hebrews 11
“Now faith is the reality of what is hoped for, the proof of what is not seen. For by this our ancestors were approved. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was made from things that are not visible.”
Hebrews 11:1-3
It’s My Turn!
I got to do a really cool thing this week! I participated in the traveling Bright Bible from Jillian at www.theilluminatedlife.org – so fun! I signed up last fall to participate and, to be completely transparent, had completely forgotten about it. Then, a couple of weeks ago, I got a call asking if I was still good to receive the Bright Bible and participate. Yes!
Fast forward to ding-dong! The doorbell rings and a box has been delivered to my front porch.
Inside was the Bright Bible along with a note and fun little surprise for me from the last participant! Participants can sign up to do one page or two and if they do two, one has to be Old Testament and the other New Testament. I signed up for two pages.
The Faith Chapter
My first entry is in Hebrews 11 – the faith chapter! I love this chapter of the Bible. It introduces the concept of faith in verses 1-3:
“Now faith is the reality of what is hoped for, the proof of what is not seen. For by this our ancestors were approved. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was made from things that are not visible.”
Then, the chapter recounts little snippets of the lives of the heroes of the Bible, highlighting the ways they lived by faith. Seeing how these ordinary people were used by God in miraculous ways simply because they chose to believe Him is incredibly inspiring. When I read this passage, I always want a bigger, deeper, taller, wider helping of faith in my life.
Do you know?
I have seen the quote “Let your faith be taller than your fears” paired with a giraffe before (I couldn’t find a source for it – if you know who came up with it, please comment and let me know!) I thought it would be perfect for this page.
Just Like You and Me
Many of these Bible heroes were scared of something just like I am sometimes. Many of them were overwhelmed or exhausted or terrified. Yet, they trusted God. They believed Him.
They made mistakes, just like I do. Yet, they did not give up. They kept coming back and trying again, rising above the others who fell away, until their faith was tall enough for all to see.
Action Step for Taller Faith:
Don’t you want taller faith like I do? What is one thing you are having trouble believing God can do right now? Think of that thing and let’s tell God right now that we believe He is the God, even of those areas we feel are impossible.
“For nothing will be impossible with God.” Luke 1:37
Prayer:
Dear God, We believe that nothing is impossible with You! Increase our faith – make it taller until we see things (and people) from Your perspective. Help us to live our daily lives to display Your awesome power! In Jesus’ name, amen.
