    have seen a great light;

those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness,

A Great Light – Isaiah 9:2 (December 3)

As we start the season of Advent, I wanted to revisit some of the Old Testament prophecies that were fulfilled with the advent of Jesus’ birth. One of my favorites is from Isaiah 9:2 – 

The people who walked in darkness

    have seen a great light;

those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness,

    on them has light shone. Isaiah 9:2

Darkness Everywhere

There is so much darkness in the world. This was even more the case before Jesus came because He had not brought the light and hope of salvation yet. Now, we have the Light of the World as the very center of our lives.

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12

The Great Light of Life

Jesus has given us the light of life. Eternal life! We have every reason in the world to arise and shine. God sent His glory in the form of His Son to be with us. 

Arise, shine, for your light has come,

    and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. Isaiah 60:2

Action Step:

Today, as you go about your day, keep in mind that you are not walking in darkness because the Light of the World has invaded your life. Our action step is to get up and interact with others with that “Arise, Shine” attitude. Share a smile or moment of the Great Light and joy with someone else today. 

Prayer:

Dear God, Help us to step into Your Light today. Remind us throughout the day that we are not in darkness. Enable us to share Your light with those around us. In Jesus’ name, amen.
