Lent: Journey to Jesus
Lent is often referred to as 40 days in the desert. It refers to the 40 days that Jesus spent in the desert being tempted by the devil. It is a time of self-denial and service. Lent fills the 40 days between Ash Wednesday and Palm Sunday, the start of Holy Week. It is really that simple! Just 40 days for us to draw near to God as we journey toward the week of Jesus’ great gift to us during Holy Week.
This Lenten Season is seen by traditional, orthodox churches as a time to connect with God and prepare our hearts for Easter.
Five Parts to Lent:
- Prayer – communicating with God
- Repentance – Confessing our sins and asking for forgiveness
- Fasting – giving up something and replacing that thing with connecting to God through prayer or bible reading
- Giving to others – helping others with time, talents, or money
- Steps toward Easter – The story of Easter, starting at Palm Sunday
For the Bible art journaling, I will be providing free printables and video tutorials. You can access the free printables in the Devotion in Action Free Resource Library that you can trace or use in your journaling!

The Challenge
Over the next 40 days, leading up to Easter, I will post one devotional and Bible art journaling tutorial each week. Read the devotional or watch the video and respond to what God is saying to you. You can create art in your Bible or a journal and post a pic on the Devotion in Action Facebook page. You can write your thoughts out and post on Facebook or in the comments.
Let’s share what God is saying with each other as we travel through this Journey to Jesus during the season of Lent.
