Witnesses - A Summer Series Hebrews 12:1-2

Witnesses

Welcome to the Devotion in Action summer series: Witnesses! I am so glad that you are here!

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2

These verses follow up Hebrews 11, often referred to as the Heroes of the Faith chapter. It talks about how individuals whose stories are in the Old Testament (like Moses, Abraham, Sarah, Joseph, etc) lived by faith and were a part of God’s plan, even when they didn’t see the promise fulfilled in their lifetimes.

These heroes of the faith are witnesses to our lives today. They should inspire us to run our race of faith, staying focused on the joy of God’s presence that is in front of us. In this summer series, we will focus on “witnesses” from throughout the Bible to build our faith and help us run a Christ-centered daily race.

If you haven’t already, come on over and join us at Facebook.com/devoinaction or follow @DevoInAction on Instagram for discussion and sharing on each week’s devotional and Bible art journaling. This is going to be fun!
